Cloud Aerosol Spectrometer with Polarisation (CAS-POL)
The CAS-POL is part of an airborne multi-probe called CAPS (Cloud Aerosol precipitation Spectrometer).
It has the following measurement capabilities:
• Measures large aerosol and cloud particles by forward scattered radiation over the size range 0.6 < Dp < 50 µm
• It records particle by particle inter-arrival time for improved data quality control and to identify artefacts due to (airborne – ice shattering, and coincidence errors).
• CAS-POL includes a particle backscatter polarisation detector which provides information on water-ice phase transitions.
It has previously been used in the AIDA cloud chamber (Kramer et al. 2012) and in the CERN CLOUD Chamber.
